Action, not learning, is the only thing that will create success.  Action means doing something.  This always reminds me of Wayne Gretzky’s famous saying, “You miss 100% of the shots that you never take.”  Action is also the most important part of the “Right Place, Right Time” formula.  “What?” you’re saying.  “There’s a formula to that?  I thought it was just luck.”  The thing most people don’t realize is that there are actually 3 parts to this formula.

1.      Being in the right place at the right time.

2.      Realizing you are in the right place at the right time.

3.      Taking ACTION!

Even if you had the first 2 steps down, without the third, you are destined to fail.  Microsoft would not exist if Bill Gates simply thought that Apple had something good going and he probably could make some money if he took that idea and made it better, but not do anything about it because he felt he didn’t know enough, didn’t know how to get the resources or felt he could find an even better opportunity.  “You miss 100% of the shots you never take.”

Take a look at the stories of Pierre Omidyar, Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey, Warren Buffet and Mark Cuban.  The one common denominator with all of them is ACTION!  I encourage you to do a web search on these remarkable individuals and learn from them.  They know what it takes to get there, and all it takes is action.

Also realize that the more shots you take, the easier it gets to make those shots.  Do you think Michael Jordan was always that good?  He was cut from his high school team when he was in ninth grade.  He practiced.  He kept taking shots.  He had the desire to be better and he believed that he could be.  He took action when it would have been just as easy to simply give up.

It is also important to decide what it is you are shooting at.  If you shoot for the stars, you have a better chance of hitting a star than if you were just aiming at a tree.  The stars represent your ultimate goal.  Where do you want to be and when?  Right now, you don’t know how to hit a star if you shot at it, though.  What you need to do is to practice with shorter range targets.  These are the goals that you set for yourself that are going to allow you to get to the stars.
