Let this serve as an introduction to what you need to know
about personal finances that you never learned in school and probably never
learned at all.
Personal finance is not just balancing your income vs your
expenses. It is much more than that, and even though there is more to it, once
you know what it is, it actually becomes much simpler. This knowledge also
makes it so that you are never poor again! Notice, I used the word poor,
not broke. Poor is a state of mind as is wealth. If you have a wealthy state
of mind, broke is just a temporary thing. If you have a poor state of mind,
broke may be a lifelong thing.
Robert Kiyosaki’s book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, is very
effective in teaching this. I highly recommend reading this book to help build
a solid base for your wealthy mindset. If there is one thing that you need to
learn, it is to learn how money really works. You see, money is not evil or the
source of greed, and never should be, but it is more apt to be these things when
you do not know how money works. Once you understand how money works, you look
for ways that money will help you and others, as opposed to what you can buy and
consume with it. You will also realize that you will need a lot of money
when you retire and savings alone is not going to get you there.
